I think if you still will stay on IRC, Users could enhance it via Quassel (e.g. http://quassel-irc.org ), which means that you have a Quassel-Server that is always connected to IRC. And a client you could use from PC, Phone, etc. that will connect and get you in the right channels including the chat history.
