of course, with buying remanufactured parts there will always be the chance
that you will end up having to get a new one soon afterwards. the reason i
went with the place i did (BAP in Tucson, great place to get import parts
cheap... i have local SE-R list members to back that up) because they have a
lifetime warrtenty on their half-shafts. so if my "newsed" driver-side
half-shaft goes out in a week, a month, year, or 5 years, i just show my
receipt and get another "newsed" shaft, that is as long as they are still in
business that long! ;^] i personally did not want to have the dealership
charge me more money for labor than to put the part in. plus, by doing this
install with Justin McClanahan ('95 G20 and member of se-r.net) we both
learned how to fix something else on our cars. prior to this half-shaft
install i went the route of just buying a new outer cv joint boot and
replacing it. worked great, until a year later when it decided to split in
two. whichever way u choose to fix it, just fix it! no need to ruin the
knuckle and then be forced into purchasing the entire shaft. oh, and make
sure u the bearing grease trick--- worked like a charm! thx Kojima! my 2
cents worth....

Be careful, here. I have heard some of these remanufactured axle shafts
have the CV joints hogged out (can't remember the name of the parts but it's
where the joint movement occurs) and the bearings/whatever replaced
oversized. The problem is they hog them below the hardening depth and so
the bearing surface is just the untreated steel, which wears faster. Anyone
else heard about this? I would like to get this rumor substantiated.

In any case, you can get Nissan remanufactured axle shafts for a bit more
money. It might be worth the extra bucks to get some pedigree on the part,
because you DON'T want to replace it in another year or two.
