The ED/ICU partner together to respond to patients presenting with septic shock. A page is initiated that is identified on beepers carried by the ICU charge nurse. When they receive the page, they initiate a call to the ED and if requested by the ED, will respond. They assist with the central line insertion, and CVP/SVO2. The biggest challenge with this is if the charge nurses are occupied with patient care, there is a delay in response. Another opportunity that we found is that the ED would manage without Paging it out, causing fall outs on completion of the 6 hour bundle.
