There is one main local EMS company due to a recent acquisition. They now utilize an EMR and we no longer get a copy of the record. We are members of Patient Bridge, a Health Information Organization (HIO) that allows health care providers to securely and quickly access their patient’s health information from other points of care. Currently EMS is not a member of that network but it would solve the problem should they partner in the future. I participate in a regional community outreach coalition where representatives of a variety of healthcare settings share information. I hope to share the need for access to the care information of EMS patients at an upcoming meeting.
