I've thought of one possible snag in terms of importing. I haven't confirmed yet, but I'm guessing adding a discussion or discussion comment via the API results in an email. If I'm right, then the 110 people who watch the Sequel repository would end up with probably over 10,000 emails. We may need to wait until GitHub supports a way to import discussions without generating an email. If adding a discussion or comment doesn't generate an email, then I wouldn't want to do the import, since I want to be notified about new discussions/comments via email, similar to pull requests and issues.
