I use james at work and it is a very good way of controlling project structure, (src, docs, tests, everything), I would be +1 to maven if a POC demonstrated that it meets all of our requirements.

The one thing I see Maven as able to do better is generate a site layout better... which is appealing since our website generation is pretty influx/messed up now, and we do have lots of subprojects that could use their own mini site in a consistent layout.
