Yes, I just realized after clicking on "send" that I didn't ask your
agreement to be published on server-dev. Sorry for this... but "error in
public" is not uncommon here...
MAILBOX-45 is more framework definition and implementation involving
study of the different nosql store to define something usage by all. You
can being light and let it evolve.
MAILBOX-44 is more direct code dealing with hadoop difficulties but with
potentially a working distributed mailbox at thee end (and also
potentially a non operational implementation at the end).
Tks,

Hi Ioan,

Glad to hear from you!

MAILBOX-45 (Design and Implement Mailbox with NoSQL Storage) is very close
to MAILBOX-44 (Design and implement a distributed mailbox using Hadoop) (I
forgot to put MAILBOX-44 in the list).

IMHO it's a question of emphasis
A fully distributed mailbox using Hadoop is interesting and has some
non-trivial aspect. I would a strong student taking on MAILBOX-44 to
be able to move beyond a simple interface and start to consider deeper
issues. The emphasis in MAILBOX-45 would be on working on a modular,
extensible framework with multiple pluggable implementations. If you
want to consider a single, difficult problem in depth then MAILBOX-44
would be a good choice. If lightweight, extensible library design [2]
is your cup of tea, then MAILBOX-45 would probably suit you better.
Whatever you choose, myself and Eric will probably end up being
closely involved (my computer time is limited ATM but is improving as
the physio progresses)

Whatever you could be interessed in, we at James will be happy to further
discuss it with you.

Hopefully, you'll forgive us for the move onto the development mailing list.
Here at Apache, development happens in public on the mailing lists.
So, though your GSOC mentor (Eric or myself, probably) will be around
to guide you, we really want to help you to become a peer in our
community.

this is still a strong influence on me
