RemoteDelivery using SSL and a user and password to authorize

Is there any way to get the equivalent of RemoteDelivery using a gateway 
with the addition of using an user/password for authentication and a 
bonus would be to use SSL?  I can do without the SSL.

I am willing to add these myself to the mailet if someone wants to point 
me in the right direction.  Should this be a new mailet or added to the 
existing RemoteDelivery?
