Noel Thanks for responding
Well, I wasn't at work at the time. I just had someone restart the service manually on the server, so I'm not sure about netstat and the processes. Both SMTP or POP3 failed when users tried to send/receive from their Mail clients. Also, I could not Remote Admin the James Server so I'm fairly certain it had halted. Also the logs all stopped being updated approx a minute after that error msg. Fair enough that may not be the cause though... I'm using MARS v2.2.7, and I already noticed your name in the ChangeLog :) The JVM is j2re1.4.2_04. Recent enough I would have thought. Is there any more info that might be useful in diagnosing it, I would love to get to the bottom of it. Regards Stephen -----Original Message----- From: Noel J. That's not a crash. Just a report about a the remote side closing a socket without quiting. Should not have anything to do with a JAMES crash. > Moments after this appeared in the log the James Server failed and > Windows failed to restart the Service. Are you sure it crashed? Did you check netstat and the process table? > recently I started to monitor the SMTP service with the aid of the > MARS tool. I have been monitoring with MARS for a year or so. Check the Change Log for MARS and you'll see where I submitted a bugfix for the SMTP probe. Make sure you're using the packaged distribution. CVS doesn't appear to have current code.
