It is helpful. The changes not working confirm that there is an issue with
fetchmail that needs to be fixed. It is to do with the new DNS code not
responding the way that the equivalent J2SE code does and not the way
fetchmail expects. The logs you provided confirm this.

Nothing right now. When we have a fix, as your environment encounters the
problem, it would be good if you might test it.

fetchPop is deprecated. I haven't tried it but I feel sure that you will
encounter many problems. These most likely will not get fixed. Stay with
fetchmail.
