I'd argue that my favorite cloud vendor offers 8e per TB a month. It would then offload me from managing TB-sized PG - possible for sure but a pain. It allows seriously decreasing the size of the PG host, which with nvme is expensive. Also blobs in PG had been implemented for simplicity of extra small deployment (just backup the DB) but if I remember well it pays the write twice: commitlog + main DB. Alast phylosophically DB is about metadata while object store is better for potentially big Now if hosting on premise the choice of the object store is a cornelius choice. I understand getting something both simple, reliable and cheap is hard. To that end the PG implementation can simplify things. And be worth spending the additional runtime costs.-- Best regards, Benoit TELLIER General manager of Linagora VIETNAM. Product owner for Twake-Mail product. Chairman of the Apache James project. It should store a few million emails that take about 1TB of storage in the beginning and everything that comes in in the next few years. Postgres is capable of efficiently handling databases that are a few TB large. Additionally, I would assume that the email use cases where large amounts of data are rarely read or written should be a relatively cheap one. Therefore, I am currently planning to only use postgres for persistence, and no dedicated blob store. My test instance currently has half a million emails and that works totally fine without blob storage. Do you guys have any arguments why I should add a dedicated blob storage? Are there any use cases that I overlooked that would greatly benefit from it?
