Come to think of it, one of my discussions with Tim about this was at some OpenGroup event at the Hyatt Harbourside in Boston in the summer of 2002, I think. And I mention it here, because he and I were sitting together at a table, and Ron Schmelzer was up speaking and said something about - IIRC - invoking remove procedures over a network. As he said that, Tim and I looked at each other and shook our heads disapprovingly, and Ron must have seen that because after he was done he came over to ask what was up.
