In Business people ("users", just in case people have forgotten them)
perception: 

 

"System" = Something imposed that they have not choice but to use,
though usually they find every possible workaround to avoid doing so as
originally intended

"Application" = Something that they use to help them work more
efficiently to gather, collaborate on and express their own thoughts and
ideas.

 

I know which of the two I would rather be implementing... (regardless of
how it was architected !!)
