Sure, I don't think that there really is a viable direct alternative to
WS-* (that makes similar architectural assumptions).   And frankly,
WS-* is pretty slow going as it is, since there really isn't a vested
interest for large vendors to commoditize their middleware (it's been
how long, and we still don't have an independently ratified atomic
transactions standard?)
