Everything I've heard about the pthreads library for Linux is bad.
(Data is as of 8 months ago - things change.)  Everything I've heard
about the Blackdown native thread stuff is worse.  (I hadn't even
realized that that bit was in production - again, old info...)

Once again, this comparison is running smack into the limitations of the
Linux JDK port.  I suspect strongly that on some other OS/JDK
combination, the results you see would be so different as to look
utterly dissimilar.
