Since your setup is not the same as the one from the article, it is not
possible to compare your results to his. It is entirely feasable that if you
were to run the CGI test, the CGI version would be much faster. The CGI
results from the article have no meaning in your test due to different
software/hardware configurations.
I have to agree with you about testing in your own environment, though.
I've been burned a couple of times by using software that performed well in
benchmarks, but dragged on my setup.

I didn't compare with CGI, but this simple exercise shows that Apache
JServ's
performance is far better than reported in the article, at least with the
final 1.0 version I used. And again, that you should never trust generic
benchmarks (including mine). Always test performance in your own environment
with test data that represents your application.
