If its in Windows ...go to controlPanel --->ODBC DataSources  and register
ur DataSource with the driver pertinent to your database giving the remote
host name ,database name ,and passwd if any.then u can use it the same way u
are using it locally ...
jdbc:odbc:YourDataSource
