Can anyone here tell me if it's possible for a servlet to set the http REMOTE_USER
environment variable? There doesn't seem to be much documentation on this sort of
thing. Is this something the webserver has to do? Does anyone have documentation for
doing this? I have an application that allows the webserver (or whatever) check or set
the REMOTE_USER variable for authentication. The problem is that we have our own
internal on-the-fly scheme for determining userid, and we don't want to use the
standard basic authentication.
