Problem: Return an Excel spreadsheet from a server to a user's web browser, IE. I do not want to allow the spreadsheet opening in the browser window, rather I want to force the user to have to download the file to their local disk. The environment is a Lan with trusting relationships between all parties.
Using Jason's ServletUtil class, I'm easily sending the file, but it insists on opening in the browser when I set content type to application/vnd.ms-excel or even the more generic application/octet-stream. Is my problem easily solved? How?
