We've hashed this one out on this forum a few times already. Obviously we cannot depend on MS as a suitable Java platform. I would start encouraging adding links to Hotspot or any other suitable RT JVM on all your pages with applets and other Java code.
Although this creates a slight more headache for non-computer savy users they only have to download it once. Also it will give all Java developers freedom to use the latest APIs whenever they want and not have to be restricted to Java 1.1 and the AWT.
