Nonsense. It depends on your needs. If security is critical, yes. If this is a one-shot deal, and you don't expect to be doing something like this again, then no.
Connection pooling buys you lots. But there is a learning curve. If you know JDBC and JNDI, then going to pooling is trivial with most modern application servers.
