Gotta go with Marc on this one, Win 2000 is the best for many reasons.
I reccomend running the convert utility to convert your FAT to NTFS, UNLESS you'll also need to access this partition from a 9x OS residing elsewhere on the system (dual boot), 9x can't see FAT, but that's the only drawback to running FAT...if you aint running another OS, then convert everything to NTFS. (and yes, the 4g limit on FAT can be a gotcha in FAT with windows backup, so I'll corroberate n0xdw on this one).
A lot of people are reccomending 9x over 2k, and I can't understand that. 2k is a far superior OS for many reasons. It's also been my experience that seti WU processing sped up about 20-30 percent on all of my computers(with varying MB's/RAM etc.) when I converted them from 98 to 2k pro or server...without exception WU's sped up on them all.
