All,

First I wanted to say that I have received good feedback on the draft
proposal: (1) dropping the fmri form of a package will probably be a
good idea in the name of simplicity as well as (2) changing
repositories to support either sparc or x86 only and not 32bit/64bit
variants are chief among them. I am certain that there will be yet
more changes to the proposal.

With the exception of a few, I am a little perplexed at lack of
participation on the lists. We need to come together and decide on a
packaging system that benefits everyone. I have spoken with several
from Sun and the community who support the OPM (with some
modifications to the proposal of course), and have heard good things
from general users I have spoken with on #opensolaris, however those
on this list have largely remained quiet. Why is this?

Essentially, if we do not make a community decision to make things
better ourselves, then we will have to settle for a political one
which as we all know very often has little or no technical merit.
