(This is absolutely not a flame by any means - it is simply an expression of frustration due to the extreme apathy I have seen over the last several months on these lists)
I feel compelled to respond to this, as it seems the work that I put forward in an attempt to bring some amount of discussion seems to have largely been discarded as well. Rather than fostering an environment of discussion and sharing, it seems that lately many have adopted the 'not invented here' policy, or rather would prefer to sticking to straight dogma than thinking critically about what exists today. What gives? Granted, not everyone on these lists will always agree with each other, but this is why these mediums of communication exist - debate and discussion. It is entirely too common that individuals whom have approached the community with potential solutions to existing problems were dismissed out of hand. Solaris has been my OS of choice for almost 7 years now. There are many areas of Solaris that are second to none. There are other areas that need a little help too. I (and many others before me) have responded in an attempt to help fill those gaps with little to no success. Rather than being received as a fellow engineer who wishes to improve Solaris et al and the community, the treatment received was abrasive and at times downright confrontational (not all of the communication was like this, but most of it). Yet, in other mediums such as IRC thoughts are generally well received and are discussed with vigor. Would I join any other type of initiative that was presented to me that sought to deal with those issues? Absolutely. Yet, not a single soul has so much has suggested a joining of causes or a sharing of ideas. The community is about much, much more than our own wishes and desires - it is about the needs of the whole. All of us as community members have a responsibility to respect and communicate with each other as *peers*. Not doing so effectively closes the community and goes against its very nature. I have no intentions of giving up by any means - but I refuse to put out yet another implementation in an attempt to solve a single problem without the blessing and input from others - that is irresponsible.
