If there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with those two files, then I
don't know why you might be having problems.  You might try creating a
brand new account on the machine, without any customizations, and see if
that account has the same issues, slowly adding your customizations until
you find the one that kills it.  Not sure what else to tell you.
