In addition to the other suggestions made so far, I'd recommend looking
at the work of some other SFW integrations. For example,
usr/src/lib/gd2/Solaris/libgd2.1
usr/src/lib/gd2/Solaris/libgd2.3
includes a good, boilerplate sort of man page for this sort of thing.
