Hello again. I'm a core developer with net-snmp (www.net-snmp.org). My area of specialization is the Solaris port.
As you are likely well aware, the snmpd shipped with Solaris 10 and Open Solaris is actually net-snmp 5.0.9. Sun has tweaked it to provided its needed functionality. Source is here http://cvs.opensolaris.org/source/xref/sfw/usr/src/cmd/sma/net-snmp/ net-snmp has released version 5.4.1.pre2, with considerably more functionality, particularly in terms of monitoring hardware sensors eg. fans, switches, temperature. Here's the latest source. http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=12694&package_id=1 1571&release_id=510391 I raised this issue awhile ago in a thread entitled "Perhaps it's time to upgrade net-snmp" and received some encouraging responses. Now that net-snmp close to release, it's time to revisit it. Basically, what I need are testers. While this isn't specifically an Open Solaris issue yet, eventually it will be. Net-snmp's release methodology is such that once we get past pre* mode and into release candidates, it's very difficult to get anything changed or tweaked. We are also trying for a common code base across platforms (ie. Solaris 2.6->10) so we need to know if anything that we do to make it work on Solaris 10 breaks anything on lower releases. Once we do have a generic 5.4.1 that we're happy with, we need decisions about how to best implement it within Open Solaris and Solaris 10. ___ This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed.
