OK I followed the procedure in the FAQ to the letter and LINUX boots OK, to a point... Just after the message "VFS: mounted root (minux file system)" I get the error "end_request: I/O ERROR, dev 02:00, sector 0" then "No configuration files (----) found!" then it halts. There is nothing wrong with the hard disk (no bad sectors) and STN runs on this machine (from floppy) on a regular basis without problem. There are two other partitions on the disk (both inactive at this time). Interestingly, if I put the floppy into the drive while it is booting from the hard disk but before it reaches the above point - it works OK !!! but reads files from the diskette rather than the HD. Could it be that the load system is looking for files specificaly on A: ??? and if so how can I get around it ?? Any advice very welcome. PS Before anyone asks - Yes ! I do need to boot from HD - for security reasons. The STN machine is "exposed" and even a floppy lock is considered risky. Removing the diskette after boot is not an option either as I often need to tweak the configuration remotely on the fly and reboot.
