I can agree with your 3C503 assessment, Brian..

I just pulled the last of my 503's out of my linux box at home this weekend.

In my experience with STN I've found that ALL the 'tested' cards, and most
of the 'not-tested' cards (and drivers) seem to work as advertised, hence my
comment.

Will they co-exist? They seem to just fine assuming that you've not
configured resources to step on each other and also assuming you've not
built your STN package so big as to not fit on a 1.44 floppy. I've never
fooled with the 'bigger' floppies (I'm not referring to 5.25 1.2 meg
floppies either), so I can't talk to that.

My suggestion would be if you are going to install two NICs in an STN box,
make them the same type of NIC, or at least using the same driver. Saves on
disk space and is easier to troubleshoot.

With the exception of PnP-only cards, nearly all the cards I've fooled with
work equally well. If I were to pick a favorite I'd still select the SMC
Ultra. It's readily available and works well.. Yes, you need to build a DOS
disk to configure them... But that's not so difficult. I used the DOS
emulator on my Caldera 2.3 linux box to do that. Failing that, I'd go with
the Tulip driver cards. Just because they seem to be the most refined
drivers around and work with so many type cards on the market...

At any rate.. I didn't want to come off sounding flip, but really, I
haven't found any conflicts if you stick to the list John's built in...

HopeItHelps, tho your mileage may vary...

                                        --==jb==--
