John and John,
Exactly. I fiddle-farted around with a number of options, including trying
to do it on my own (what a joke). I found STN to be the one program that I
could install, tweak just a little, and forget. I have a life...I didn't
want to spend it training a firewall. It has its limitations: I never have
been able to get it to work with Netmeeting, and I have trouble entering
chat mode or doing file transfer through ICQ. But neither of these is
earth-shattering; if my friends insist on showing me their ugly mugs I can
use CUSeeMe, and if I want to send them a file or watch them hunt and peck
out a message in real time, I can use these features in Yahoo.
Plus, as Robin points out, there is the hardware issue: what a WONDERFUL way
to convince my wife that I really did have a good reason not to let her
throw away that old 386 that collected dust for years!
Cheers,
Carl
