. . . . and now we get to the crux of the original question I asked.

I would absolutely agree that there IS some difference between the M$ 
DHCP request and the Linux DHCP request - the $64,000.00 question, is 
WHAT is the difference.  I am going to have to have at this beastie with 
a good sniffer & try to figure this out.
