I've been a happy STN user for about two years. Everything was fine,
until I had to replace my cable modem due to a failure. My ISP is RCN
(www.rcn.com) and they provide HyBrid cable modems.
If I plug a laptop directly into the new cable modem and enable DHCP,
winipconfig tells me the following:
IP Address: 208.59.204.185 (address of laptop via DHCP)
Gateway: 10.17.61.170 (address of cable modem)
Subnet Mask:255.255.255.0
My STN box is a 486 with two 3COM 509B's (that have always worked like a
champ). My internal network starts with the internal STN port =
192.168.0.1, and the various clients (Solaris, RedHat, and Wintel) are
192.168.0.101 to 192.168.0.105.
When I enter the appropriate info and build the disk, I will always get
"Unreachable" when I try to ping the external port on the STN box
(208.59.204.185). The "Unreachable" message also appears while booting
the STN box, too. Obviously, I get the same error if I try to go beyond
that to the cable modem itself (10.17.61.170).
My prior cable modem would DHCP an address one more then the cable modem
itself (like 209.122.65.64 and 209.122.65.63), but this one returns
addresses that are totally different.
Any help in configuring STN would be appreciated.
