It depends on how they do it.
Some cable providers (Charter Communications - the provider I use, for
example) use the electronic serial number of the modem as the way they
authenticate you. Others use PPPoE (which is a sort-of PPP protocol
used over cable and DSL connections)
If your new provider uses PPPoE - you're sunk as STN does not support it
(yet).
However, with the first one you have the equivelent of an "office"
network connection. You connect to the modem - get a lease - and you're
in!
There are a few small rocks in the road - you may discover that the
particular combination of cable modem and your network card makes it
difficult to get a DHCP lease -(you may have to reboot several times to
get one) If this is true, you will want to set RFC 1541 to true...
The rest - I'd just leave alone unless your particular provider rquires
them.
