I've been trying for several days to set up an STN box to no avail. I've tried several diferent computers. I've got a whole box of NICS I've been going through. I finally went out and bought two new D-Link DEF-530TX+ NICS, can't get them to work. I'm sure I'm just not smart enough to set something up right, but I'm not sure what.
I run the D-Link diagnostic and it tells me the card base I/O addresses are 6000H and 6100H, so I put 0x6000 and 0x6100 in the base address location on the build program. The first thing I see is the errors SIOCSIFADDR: Device not found, followed by SIOCSIFBRADDR and SIOCSIFNETMASK and similar entries. I get eth0 not found errors. I need a box to provide DHCP and basic firewall for a small network of about eight or so workstations. This particular one is going between an old ISDN router that dials ISDN, but not much else, so I need to work it with two NICs. I've also got a whole bag of 3Com 3C905-TX NICs I can't seem to get to work either. I see all the comments on what a snap STN is to set up, so I must be really stupid here to have so many problmes. Any help is greatly appreciated.
