Title: DEbug ISDN modem?

I also have a STN box setup with an ISDN modem. It has been running fine for a year till a few months ago. After a while the modem "stalls" of hangs.  The STN box is running fine, but the modem has a Carrierr detect light on, but no traffic. A power on-->off on the modem itself, without rebooting the STN fixes the problem, but if i dont reset the modem it stalls for 3 or 4 hours beofre the inet connection is back up.  I cant see what happened, the log file doesnt report the modem errors. I think that the problem is woth my ISP provider, but i cant prove it. Is there any way i can see the communication of the modem with my ISP? Can i use the debug mode in STN for it? Or any other program so i can monitor the activity between my modem and my isp?

bye,
Dennis.

any news on the new version of STN?

Things that may help (from my experience and what I've been reading on this
board over the last couple years):

Get an older computer 386 or 486 with 16bit slots and then use ISA 16bit
NICs (not PCI) like 3Com 3c509B or any NE2000 compatible 16bit NIC.  These
are a whole lot easier to configure.  First run the setup utility to be sure
the NIC (like 3c509B) is not ISA mode (there's a way to turn this on and off
with 3Com and I can't remember what it is called but you want to be in ISA
mode) Then either let it automatically configure the card or try to manually
configure the card to say IRQ=10 and I/O=300H and then test it for
conflicts.

First put in 1 NIC and configure that as the LAN side NIC and build the
disk.  If that driver doesn't work (like you need to change IRQ or I/O) and
you are ready to build another disk - FORMAT THE FLOPPY FIRST!  Then build
the disk again.  Once you get the 1st NIC going and you think you need the
second NIC (note my next paragraph), then put in the second NIC (again good
luck with 3c509B) and then use the 3Com to configure that.  Then continue on
with the STN diskette building.  I use a few floppies, format them and then
build new test configurations between the STN box boot ups (as they take a
little time).

Finally, you say you need to go between ISDN router?  I used the STN  box
with an ISDN modem connected directly to the serial port of the STN box and
then needed only 1 NIC for the Lan side, while the WAN side used the modem.
Had to tweak some MTU settings to get it to work but it worked like a
charm.  Some issues with having it hang up after x minutes of no use
sometimes is quirky.  So not quite sure what you mean when you say "This
particular one is going between an old ISDN router that dials ISDN".  Let
the STN box dial the ISDN modem.

It's like anything in this business.  Some simple things become a real bear
at times.  STN is a great product.  If and When you get it to work it very
reliable.

Good Luck
Arnie
