It is worth to mention that Shaikh Al-Amer in his Friday speech in Al-Baqee's Masjid in Hufuf on last June , called the Saudi government for expanding political participation, rejecting sectarian discrimination and guaranteeing freedom of worship to religious minorities according to the international conventions . On June 14, 2008, he also was arrested for criticizing an infidel pact that was signed by 22 Salafi clerics whom they issued a statement against Shi'ites, stating that Shi'ites are infidels, traitors, and a great threat to Sunnis. The Saudi government did not take any action to combat such divisive statements that encourage hatred and allow for a new wave of discrimination against Shi'ites. He demanded the government of officially recognizing the Shiite doctrine similar to the four Sunni sects which have representatives in the Supreme Rligious Council which is the highest religious authority in Saudi Arabia. Shaikh Al-Amer was arrested three times. The last arrest was on September 2008 for announcing call to prayers as per the Shi'a methodology. He was also arrested on April 2005 for hosting religious activities pertaining to Ashura.
