I just noticed an April 2011 release of the FTDI driver for windows. It installs a driver dated 3/18/2011, ver 2.8.14.0 with the full WHQL regalia. I installed using the usual setup link (per Shimmer manual) at: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm
The update is noteworthy because it exposes a lot more settings in the advanced tab of port settings tab on the driver, including disabling downstream serial enumeration (which isn't possible on a Shimmer dock) and behaves in a manner consistent with the Linux driver. For example, no more wiggling reset line during USB enumeration.
