hi nick,

fastclock is just a simple interface that supports the separate 8mhz crystal on shimmer*.

as for the gyro, that's not the spec sheet, that's a marketing brochure. the spec sheet is referenced from this web page though:

http://invensense.com/mems/gyro/documents/PS-IDG-0500B-00-08.pdf

the x-y axes are supplied by this chip, and z is provided by the isz-500.

you'll also find some interesting discussion of this issue if you search this list's archives; iirc the high-frequency cutoff is around 150z, which means that sampling at around 300 hz (2x-over) will give you all of the detail that the device can provide.

I was wondering if someone could explain to me what the Fast Clock is?
Ive seen it used alot but dont see any reference to it in the manual. Im
assuming its simply a way to overclock the shimmer cpu? Also if anyone
knows the maximum sampling rate for the gyroscope that would be helpful
as well. I couldnt find it in the spec sheet:

Also it seems like the shimmer gets 3 axis of gyro data but the chip
says it only supports x/y angular acc. Does shimmer extrapolate the z
values?

Thanks guys,

Nick
