This is a subject that continually amuses me. I had a guy working for me one time who, when I mentioned to him that the the blade tips of a 52" ceiling fan travelled faster than did the center hub - or vice-versa - you choose, became nearly apoplectic. I explained to him that the blades were 52" long and that the center of the hub was zero inches long. Therefore one or the other must be turning faster than the other. The guy eventually quit - not over that subject but I'm sure it was a contributing factor. No doubt he's now a technical advisor for an OEM ;-)

Pat, I don't know if this is the answer, but think of this: you are on a merry-go-round, if you are closer to the center you are spinning around faster than if you were on the outer edge. Make any sense?
