John,

Thanks for the input. Fifteen seconds? You're sure faster than I am...but I've only used a frequency analyzer a few times. (Don't have one of my own.)

>We talk a lot about type 1 shafts, I prefer to just call them bent.

Why do you call them bent? Most Type 1 steel shafts that I've used seem to be straight...at least they roll perfectly flat (easy to see with a stepless shaft on a smooth flat table).

>What I'd like to hear about is some testing that indicates aligning an otherwise very uniform stiffness shaft that is simply bent ( generally all steel shafts) has any effect on the clubs performance. I know of three sets of tests that indicated no effect on performance from alignment of a type 1 shaft but I've not seen any data on tests that indicate alignment did improve performance.

I've hit some mis-aligned (probably just put in hosel at any random position) steel shafted irons that felt very out of match and didn't perform similar to the rest of the set...which is why I always match using deflection numbers on the NBP. The obviously bent steel shafts I've found when rolled, I used in wedges with a lot of trim and aligned them on what my NF2 read as the NBP (probably the bend). Haven't noted any difference in performance, even though the tiny bend was still in the shaft. Had three of those shafts in the last couple of months.

Looks like a gloomy, rainy Christmas day ere, but am sure the grandkids will brighten the day up a great deal. The best to you and family.

Bernie
