ShopTalk: 3 metal wood length

Hello everyone,
What is  the generally accepted length for a 3 wood. It used to to be 
42'' but that was when standard drivers were 43''
shorter if making  a customer a 3&5 wood do you check what length driver 
they a using and   make the #3   1 1/2''  and #5   2 1/2''shorter ?
I use a 45'' driver but have kept my #3 &#5 at the old standard .
it works ok for me  as I think I get more accuracy and lose almost 
nothing in length I also use #3  with 13  degrees of loft  which gives 
me the xtra distance I need.
