Hi John,
I MOI match my woods to my irons and this results in a driver length of
around 43.5 inches for a 420-cc driver. There is no question that I hit
the shorter driver better. I also have a 'high launch' 13* driver with the
head hosel weighted to 210-g (think fat three wood) that I often use in
tournaments. It's about 42.5-inches and I hit it even better and, on
average, just as far. Higher trajectory though so it's not very good on
windy days. My fairway woods are correspondingly shorter (and MOI
matched). Wishon Interflexx shafts. I have built similar clubs for
several friends and they all love them. I am a big fan of MOI matching
woods to irons and the shorter woods this produces. Of course you can also
use head weighting to swingweight match shorter woods. Even swingweight
matched I think shorter drivers are better for 90+% of us.
I'm a believer,
Alan Brooks
