I collected classic blades for awhile, and here is my list of favorites (from a
looks and playability perspective):

1. 1969 Wilson Bullet Backs
2. 1971 Wilson Button Backs (tough to find a set with all the buttons)
3. 1976 Wilson Staff model (lower CG than the previous models so easiest to
hit)
4. 1967 Macgregor VIPs
5. 1970's Hagens

In the early-mid 80's, Wilson re-made some of the classic blades, so those
would be worth a look too. I tried several sets of Hogans, but they never felt
as solid as the Wilson blades to me.

Subject: ShopTalk: Retro Irons and Woods

A customer friend of mine from Ireland is planning a trip this June
and was looking for some advice on pre-1980's persimmon and blades.
Since I was barely out of diapers in the 1970's (even though I turned
50 this year) I suggested that he join shoptalk and get advice from
some of the old timers that might have experience with this stuff.
Watch for his post sometime soon and be nice to him, he's a good guy.
Thought it would be fun to follow him on his adventure back in time.
