Yes - Shotwell writes metadata in EXIF, IPTC and XMP format which are standard and understood by many other photo applications. 2) What happens (in shotwell) when there's a clash between the info in the file and shotwells db, for instance when tags were obfuscated in shotwell, but written correctly to the file?
