FWIW, I'd appreciate seeing a better description of the reason for
making a change like this.
It's only my personal opinion, and maybe I'm missing something
"obvious" - but I can't tell if this change is good, or why, and I would
guess that even you might have trouble if you look at it again in a
couple of months' time.
If it's something that was discussed and agreed on IRC, one minimal
possibility would be just to paste in the relevant bit of the IRC
transcript.
