Second of all, it's a matter of having a theme, if done correctly (ask
JesusMcLaud in IRC or here) can be permanent.

Changing the background of an application isn't very common, and even if it
was, it should be done using a theme (skin). The background is part of the
UI, if you want to change it , you need to change the UI, I don't think this
is too much for a user who wants to customize his box. Furthermore, applying
premade themes (skins) should be relatively easy, so I really don't think
it's needed.
