I would be surprised if there wasn't one line to remove illegal chars from 
number, in my "reference implementation" for number normalization.
Shame on Tasn/Dos1 if they haven't implemented it :-). It should be a user 
configurable field like intl-prefix, country-code, etc.
Though I'm aware I said "no number normalization of any number to be dialed" 
this obviously does NOT apply for the removal of illegal chars (as well as 
sometimes a certain s/x/y/ for a particular case like only for SMS outbound, 
only SIP inbound etc, also comes in handy (cheapest speeddial ever: s/(^3$|
^joerg$)/+49800112/). So my original suggestion to have a dedicated set for 
each 'direction' [sms out direct, sms out contact, sms in, GSMcall out 
direct,...] still seems to have its merits)
