Ok that sucks as that seems to exclude the possibility that it is a software 
issue.
(As you can not turn is on using the power button (that was why I asked))

Yes rice supposedly absorbs moisture
(that is why some people put it in there salt shakers)

Its not that hard to take apart.
But then again I might have "the knack" [1] "your mileage may vary" 
(replacing the button is a lot harder)

But at least opening it up will allow you to see if there is any moisture left
and allow it dry even better that when closed.
