I, too, am using SHR-T as I need a stable phone. I also have Debian on
my uSD, but I find that at the moment, Debian makes a great handheld
computer, but SHR-T beats it hands down as a phone.
It seem to me from the conversation that:
a. the changes in SHR-U are too large to cherry-pick
b. it is never going to be satisfactory taking semi-stable snapshots
of SHR-U to freeze as SHR-T
May I suggest a third approach:
FSO and e17 (illume-1) are both in Debian squeeze/sid.
sid is unstable, but Debian's unstable is way more stable than SHR-U.
I tried briefly, but unsuccessfully, to get a working phone from
illume on Debian (zhone works fine). If we put some effort into fixing
illume on Debian, we benefit from the large Debian userbase, the
Debian build hosts, and our patches are likely to get upstream more
quickly.
Thanks for your mail,
Quick questions,
* Will it be possible to get debian to fit on the freerunner's internal
flash? (I gather it's too big at the moment).
* How would we go about it getting a debian shr improvement?
I'm happy to plough on with shr-t as a part of the shr project, but it
would maybe be good for both approaches to happen at once. I certainly
like debian but I'm inclined to stick to stabilizing what the core shr
developers produce.
Thanks
Tim
