Depending on how bad it's crashed, http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Usb_networking#Gentoo should work. If you set it up right, once plugging in your FR with USB you can ssh to your server and do what you need. I found this *very* handy to issue a reboot, or making minor edits to config files, but an on screen keyboard really blows for anything more than a few lines of text.
